About.

We are a collective of five faculty members at the University of South Carolina (UofSC), Department of Instruction and Teacher Education focusing on equity and countering anti-Blackness in our teaching, research, and service. We offer supportive anti-racist sessions. We are a multi-ethnic, male and female team, each with extensive professional development expertise and experience ranging from five to 30 years in Columbia, the state, nation, and internationally.
Our approach. is to enter into dialogue with stakeholders and jointly develop a plan of action. During our series of sessions, we provide a framework for discussing, processing, and acting on sensitive issues.
Our goal. is to foster a supportive space that examines systemic and individual racism through critical dialogue.

Each of us has a strong track record for effectively preparing cadres of majority White inservice and preservice teachers to teach and learn about issues of race.  We are also the founders of the department’s Urban Education Cohort for preservice teachers focusing deeply on anti-racist, humanizing classroom practice and we are faculty sponsors of REACH (Race, Equity, and Advocacy in Childhood Education), the only University of South Carolina student organization of its kind focusing on issues of race and racism within and beyond educational institutions. Our books, articles, courses, and professional development highlight the examination of self, curriculum, and school environment interwoven with specific strategies for anti-racist practice. We also work with family groups, companies,  and sectors outside of education locally, nationally, and internationally to understand racism, its subtle and overt realities, and know how to stand against it. It is a process that, over time, can lead to transformation that benefits everyone.
